ARTIST

I am a performing artist and curator, rooted in physical investigations of trauma and resilience. My work challenges the capitalist quest for the eternal elixir, and asserts the intentional act of disruption to create social and ecological change. Our individual selves serve as microcosms of our collective body. We wish to thrive.

I connect national and international teaching artists with Chicago art makers across genres in the independent and fringe arenas (including Butoh). I seek to foster positive communication and arts integration within Chicago’s complex, overlapping sectors by providing opportunities for workshops, performances, and conversations. CV

BUSINESS

At Large is an ad-hoc arts organization, seeking opportunities to foster diversification in the field of art through dedication to artistic practices, public art, and community workshops. Sara Zalek created and currently manages all aspects of www.butohchicago.com

Sara discovered Thai bodywork through a personal chronic injury, which led to a 200 hour training at Blue Lotus in Chicago in 2017-8. In March, 2019, she visited Pichest Boonthumme in Thailand for more intensive study. Following a strong curiosity about body/mind integration, movement of both body and energy, and deep listening, she is currently dedicated to further discovery and research in somatic healing and art for a brighter future.

Sara co-managed OuterSpace Studios, from 2017-2019. By fostering space, they advocate for teaching and rehearsing artists to have access to space and community.

Marketing and administration are inadvertent skills Sara has acquired, and her desire to share this experience with artists is fierce.
