Nipple Beach

Nipple Beach came about as a series of events, starting off with a simple object, an object cast, multiplied and crafted individually became a theatrical satire on the subject of women, on the subject of objectification.

This installation both excited and appaulled, and with over 1,000 nipples in circulation and 1,000 more to go back to nature, I hope it continues to arouse curious diaglog.

I felt the installation itself was quiet and odd, a surrealist landscape, the viewer invited to step into the environment of a dream.

The stillettos came from a performance as Cinderella-for one week wearing one high heel, dressed as a princess, I performed my duties as a maid. I made the boot from ceramic, created a mold and multiplied it to become a small army. Stillettos which at once insight feelings of power and sexuality, both in the wearer and the viewer, are curious objects.

The performance was an experiment, to engage the audience in the spectacle. It became something other than itself.

The crocheted thong came from another project, I have been crafting this design after a collaboration project in which I enchanged crafted underwear for a "traveling trunk show."The more I made, the more the demand grew. My colleages, Leone Reeves and Ryan Tacata, performed in these thongs for two nights, and the nipples became a desired object, or was it the performers?

Nipple Beach kept surprising me, as I had my performers back on the last day of the show for some photos. What they came up with was definately scandelous. Provocative, Strange?

Returning to their origin, or at least more on the natural side of life, I am depositing the remaining nipples, which are approximately 1,000, on beaches throughout the world. My hope is one of returning, gift, and curiousity continued....
